Youth are an active and integral part of the St. Philip community. Both middle and high school youth at St. Philip have an opportunity to come together weekly for Bible study, devotions, fellowship, food, and fun through Sunday school and Wednesday night M3 activities. Youth leaders and Sunday school teachers plan and lead discussions on current events and topics, recent movies or songs, and their relationships to scripture or fundamental beliefs of the church.
As well as activities within the congregation, youth have opportunities to experience the whole church by attending activities through Eastern Cluster events such as our Fall Rally; Synod events like Middle School Retreat, LYO Assembly, and national events, such as the ELCA Youth Gathering.
Our youth are continuously involved in service projects for St. Philip as well as the community. Youth have been active in clean-up days around the church, Preschool Vacation Bible School, Music Week, mission trips, working at Agape/Kure Beach Ministries or Lutheridge/Lutherock, just to name a few.

High School Sunday School Class (9th-12th Grades)
The 9th-12th grade youth enjoy open discussion on many different topics. Open exchange of ideas, concerns and joys are encouraged in this small group setting. This class meets from 9:45-10:45 in the high school youth room in the basement of education building from September through May. For more information, visit the Sunday School page.
High School Youth Group
Our High School youth group meet every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Youth group time includes music, fellowship, learning, and service. For more information, visit the Youth Groups page.
Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO)
The Lutheran Youth Organization of the North Carolina Synod is open to all youth in grades 6-12. Youth are members by virtue of being a member of any NC Synod ELCA congregation. Each year at the LYO Assembly, congregations are invited to send two voting delegates who vote on the LYO Board members and any issues before the assembly. They also spend time in small groups learning, sharing and discussing the theme for the weekend. This year’s theme was “Pray Where You Are.” Our synod’s LYO is further divided into four clusters: North Central, South Central, Eastern and Western. We are members of the Eastern cluster. Each cluster holds annual rallies to encourage local participation in the Lutheran Youth Organization. These are great opportunities to see the larger church, youth style!! We are heading to the LYO Assembly in Greensboro February 24-26. The costs and schedule for 2012 have not been finalized, however, for planning purposes the cost in 2011 was $128 and we left for Greensboro at 5:00 stopping for dinner along the way!
Share the Word – Teens Encounter Christ (TEC)
What: Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) is a 3-day retreat incorporating table discussions, skits, songs, and serious talks focused on Christ. TEC is an awesome opportunity to grow in your relationship with Christ and build lasting Christian friendships. There are many TECs and similar groups that use the same retreat format located across America. Who: Those attending for the first time must be at least 15 and have completed at least a semester of 9th grade. Adults that wish to support this youth ministry first attend as guests. Both teens and adults may return to serve on later retreats. Where: Share the Word TEC is located in Eastern North Carolina. Retreats are held at Camp Agape near Fuquay-Varina, NC When:There are two retreats per year. They are held Labor Day and Martin Luther King, Jr. weekends.
Boy Scouts 
Troop 342 has been in existence since 1982 and is part of the Neuse River District of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The Troop meets Tuesdays at 7 p.m. from mid August through June at St. Philip Lutheran Church in the lower level of the Education Building. The Troop currently has 18 active scouts and 7 trained Adult Leaders, including 5 Woodbadge trained adults. To date, the Troop has 85 young men that have reached the Eagle Scout Rank.
