Families Together
New Meal Ministry: Dinner Volunteer Opportunity—Join Families Together in making a meaningful impact by providing a warm meal for families in their shelter and housing programs during their Monthly Workshops. These gatherings offer adults valuable guidance from our Housing & Family Services Team, while children engage in enriching activities. A shared meal before each session fosters connection and support among families.
How You Can Help—Families Together invites volunteers from their church partners to prepare and serve a nutritious meal for approximately 20 people, including:
* Entrée, dessert, and beverages
* Paper goods and serving supplies
Homemade meals are wonderful, but if cooking isn’t an option, restaurant-prepared meals are also welcome. Volunteers are encouraged (but not required) to stay and engage with families after dinner.
Workshops take place on the third Thursday of each month at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church. Sign up to volunteer here: Families Together: Workshop Meal Ministry
About the Ministry –
Families Together seeks to provide families (parents with children) who are experiencing homelessness in our community with a secure roof over their heads. They believe that no child should be homeless, and they are a leading organization in the fight against rising home insecurity within Wake County. St. Philip actually helped start Families Together a little over 40 years ago, and we take pride in the fact that we are helping families experiencing homelessness in our community. Families Together is close to the heart of many at St. Philip due to our relationship with this awesome ministry… and the fact that some of our members had a hand in its inception as Pan Lutheran Ministries! PLM Families Together has changed its name to “Families Together” to better reflect their primary purpose to keep families with children together. They provide housing and comprehensive services for families experiencing homelessness in Wake County. Their programs include assessment, short-term housing, rapid re‑housing support, intensive support services, permanent housing placement, and 12-month stabilization care.

The Tidy Team – The Tidy Team Cleaning Crew helps ready short-term apartments that provide temporary housing for families with children experiencing homelessness. Because of the demand for our emergency shelter apartments, we only have a week to clean up before they are needed again. Ideally, volunteers on our “stand-by” cleaning crew would have flexible schedules during the week and would be available with only a few days’ notice to come deep clean and sanitize one or more apartments. Savings in cleaning services expenses enable us to expand our program. Please contact Sandy Glass at [email protected] to be added to the group of those interested!
